Barry Leadbeater

This searchable database of marriages in South Australia up to 1855 includes those before civil registration (mid 1842) and others not submitted to the Registrar. Full names including widows' maiden names are usually included. In addition to the names and marriage date, the more recent records give the place of marriage and ages of the couple.

Marriage Sources

The major sources of these marriage records are the (Holy) Trinity Church marriage register and the South Australian Marriages Registrations 1842 to 1916, SA Genealogy & Heraldry Soc, 2001. Other church records, journals and newspapers of the day were also consulted.
Weddings before civil registration commenced and others recorded in church marriage registers but not submitted to the Registrar of Births, Deaths & Marriages are included. Also, the maiden names of previously married women have often been determined. For more information, see the article on the accuracy of family history sources.
